FOR YOUR SAFETY:

Taxis in Fife have yellow plates on the rear of the car and on the front window. They usually have a light on the roof with the words "TAXI", or the company name and/or their phone numbers.

Taxis are permitted to pick up passengers from the street or from designated taxi ranks.

Private Hire Vehicles in Fife have white plates on the rear of the car and on the front window. They do not have lights on the roof as they are not permitted to sit in taxi ranks or pick up randomly from the street. You must pre-book a private hire car. 

It is worth noting that when you are waiting in a queue for a taxi there may be private hire cars available to pick you up quicker. You need to phone them though. They will not be in the taxi rank.

All Fife taxi and private hire drivers are vetted by the council before being issued with a "hackney" licence. 

In the interest of your personal safety - If a vehicle does not have a proper plate and the driver a personal hackney badge with their photo and licence number on display - you should not get in the vehicle.
